Sena Wazer ’19

Sena Wazer’s journey is a shining example of academic excellence and environmental advocacy. Enrolling at Manchester Community College at age 13, Sena excelled academically and found a supportive environment that helped her navigate the challenges of starting college at a young age. "MCC provided the perfect environment for me to transition to college," Sena reflects. "The smaller class sizes and dedicated professors made all the difference."

With 35 credits and a perfect GPA, Sena transferred to the University of Connecticut at age 15, where she pursued her passion for Environmental Studies and graduated with top honors.

Wazer has gained recognition as a Truman Scholar and one of CT Magazine's 40 Under 40 Class of 2022. Most recently, she has been named one of MCC Alumni Association’s 2023 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year.

Beyond the classroom, Sena's work is making a significant local impact. As a Regional Organizer at The Climate Reality Project and an environmental justice advocate, she is at the forefront of raising awareness and driving action on climate change issues. Sena's dedication has earned her prestigious awards including the UConn Environmental Leadership Award.

In her role as co-director of Sunrise CT, Sena led initiatives like the youth climate strikes and helped organize the first CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Youth Climate Summit, empowering young voices to make a difference. Her articles in CT Mirror, The Nation, and Yes! Magazine, along with a compelling TEDx talk, amplify her message of environmental awareness and action.

With her blend of academic excellence, advocacy, and leadership, Sena Wazer continues to inspire positive change and drive meaningful progress in the fight for environmental sustainability.
