Sena Wazer ’19

Sena Wazer’s journey is a shining example of academic excellence and environmental advocacy. Enrolling at Manchester Community College at age 13, Sena excelled academically and found a supportive environment that helped her navigate the challenges of starting college at a young age. "MCC provided the perfect environment for me to transition to college," Sena reflects. "The smaller class sizes and dedicated professors made all the difference."

Paul H. Karrer ’76

Enrolling at MCC during the closing days of the Vietnam War, Paul H. Karrer ‘74 found himself amidst a tumultuous period in history. Reflecting on his time at the college, Paul shares, "It was a time of social exploration and personal development, with the weight of the war still heavy on the minds of most young men. Many of us were in a lottery for the draft." Despite the challenges of the era, Paul found solace in the vibrant campus community, where he recalls tuition was $300 per year and classrooms were housed in trailers.

John Clay Jr. ’17

John Clay Jr., a 28-year-old graduate of Manchester Community College and Central Connecticut State University, is making waves in the transportation industry. In May 2022, he founded DriverReady, a company focused on revolutionizing logistics by providing certified, on-call, independent drivers and 26-foot box trucks to delivery companies nationwide.

Henry Howard ’89

Henry Howard '89 recalls MCC as “...a place where everyone cares and someone is there to help you every step of the way, from beginning to end. There was an infrastructure of support.”

Howard grew up in Hartford’s Stowe Village with his mother. Built in the 1940s, Stowe Village is one of Hartford’s most historic housing projects.

Laura Hilton, Psy.D., CEC

Laura Hilton returned to school in her mid-20s, concerned that that she lacked the necessary skills to move forward. However, upon enrolling in Manchester Community College, she found a supportive community through the Adults in Transition program. She attributes her success to her mentor, Professor Egan, and the inspiring and supportive faculty at MCC.
